XD gas or Chevy 2500 gas

I'm really looking for a new truck, I have a 20ft gooseneck trailer I tow sometimes along with a 18ft enclosed that I have setup like a toy hauler. I really like the XD and want a diesel since I loved my 2001 7.3 ford, but with all I've read on the new emissions I don't think I really need one. I've found a few Chevys in the 39K range and the XD SV seems to be in the 42K range. I'm hoping to do some long test drives this weekend as so far I've only done a short trip in town. I'm not as concerned about MPG as I drive a Tacoma back and forth to work most of the time, so this will be my weekend truck and will stay in the garage a lot. My 2004 Titan on has 100K on it so you see how much I drive.

Go test drive one to the other ones lot and compare the 2 together, most nissan dealers will let you drive it for the day if you ask

I traded out of a ram 2500 with 6.4 hemi. The xd rides and drives way better, although I haven't pulled my camper yet you can tell there will be no problem. My wife actually thanked me because it is so much more comfortable. I bought a 16 sv 4x4 with all options for 38xxx out the door.

Yeah, go drive each one then make a decision. They are both solid trucks.

All that nihilus mentions in addition to having peace of mind with a 5 yr 100,000 mile warranty. All Chev gasser fuel management engines get the thumbs down from me. Had one and will never look back or go back, their svc dept's blatantly lie to you and stall when still on warranty .

How was the 6.4 hemi pulling your trailer? Was thinking of trading my 2011 6.7 in on one but it's never given me any problems. I use it to pull my trailer maybe 10x a year and I'm just tired of expensive oil changes, fuel filters and other over priced maintenance items.

the 6.4 hemi is a brute, it was great and I loved the truck. I put 6000 miles on it no problems. fuel economy was about the same as the xd 5.6 until about the end of oct. I'm guessing they changed the fuel blend and the air got cooler. my best mpg ever 17.2 all hwy. most of the time I avg. 13-14. I got 10.3 pulling 7000lbs of camper and stuff, driving from Lufkin,tx to Atlanta state park near Texarkana that was both ways figured by hand. the trans is kinda fishy but I was fine with it. it would be the best gasser made if it had ratios similar to the gas xd or heavy duty zf 8spd. cool air and all I am avg. 14.1 in my gas xd, I am ready for summer to see if it gets better. it is actually faster than the hemi and weighs about the same. the trans ratios are so much better but can shift a little funky sometimes. hopefully this will be corrected with software updates. biggest problem was the stiffness of the suspension, although I didn't mind, my wife was pregnant and always thought she was going to have the baby in the floorboard. and she had to mention it would make our baby have shaken baby syndrome so it had to go.

Thanx for the input 5.6xd I'm gonna take a closer look at a 6.4 hemi. I love my 6.7 I only use it to tow my trailer in the summer and put very few miles on it so I'd probably be better off saving some money on maintenance and go gas. If I used it as my daily driver I'd stick with the cummins as I have a fairly long commute to work but seems like my Tacoma is gonna last forever
