Titan XD vs. F-250 (2017+)

Well I thought I would start another one of these threads.

The more we learn about the Titan XD, the more it looks to be closer to the
3/4 ton class such as the F-250.

Weight:
I predicted the Titan to be the heaviest "1/2 ton" but goddam! MT recorded
7,400 lbs. Keep in mind that this looks to be a fully loaded 4x4. Hard getting info for a loaded F-250, but a 2008 4x4 CC is 8,100 lbs as recorded by C&D. The Super duty has not changed much since then, however, it is reported that the Super duty would lose 350 lbs. Now we are talking 7750 lbs.
Advantage: Titan XD by a hair.

GVWR/payload
Still unsure of this for the Titan. Hopefully it gets 9000 GVWR at least. The F-250 is 9900 lbs if you wish to stay clear of extra license cost. That will get you 2,150 lbs payload on a fully loaded CC 4x4.
Advantage:?

Availability: Advantage Titan XD

Fuel Economy:
ugh, both are over 3.5 tons of steal (and aluminium) Physics at work here,
can't see there being much difference.
Advantage: None!

Price: Too early to tell

Power:
The Titan XD is equipped with a very sleak 5.0L Cummins rated at 310 Hp
and 555 Ft/Tq. Nice! The 6.7L, however, is rated at 440 HP and 860 Ft/tq in CURRENT form. They may decide to bump that up for 2017. In any case...
Advantage: F-250

Towing Capacity: See above

Driving through my STL parking garage to the 4th floor I count 25 F150's.

I count about 5 Titans.

Advantage XD: I want to have something that isn't in everyone's garage.

In my opinion (*** disclaimer *** this is MY opinion) the Titan XD will only be deemed a true success (relative to the big 3) if they can pull the hat trick on ALL the three areas that seem to matter.

1. Tow ratings must exceed current 1/2 ton ratings.
2. MPG numbers must be better than current 3/4 tons (be more like current 1/2 ton numbers).
3. Cost must be enough of an incentive to ditch the big 3.

On paper, and what Nissan has told us the new titan XD will be, sounds exactly like a perfect fit for me. BUT, then again, Nissan has been very ambiguous with their details. Tow ratings are said to be 12,000 pounds+ (Not a very exact number), MPGs are said to be 20% better than a gas equivalent when towing (relative to what gas motor/truck? Even MORE ambiguous), cost estimates have been all over the place. IMHO Nissan HAS to hit all three of the above criteria to make it worth while.

According to Nissan's RGIII vs Titan Xd comparison the weight is 6000 lbs and tow is 12316 lbs. I'm thinking this sounds about right for weight.

My Titan CC is about 5200 and change, throw in about 300 to 400 for the cummins and Aisin tranny and another 300 to 400 for chassis and cab.

Rumors for GVW are around 8500. So I'm thinking payload around 2300 to 2500. I was looking at current F250s so can't say about the 2017 but the payloads looked to be pushing 3000. The power stroke in the F250 is overkill better suited for the F350 in my opinion.

If Nissan is using RGIII to market this thing, then they are surely destined to fail....

Robert Griffin the 3rd, American football player. Former Heisman winner from Baylor and current (benched ) QB for the Washington Redskins.

Very hyped player that looked to be a game changing player in his first year. Got hurt and was never the same. Has a huge ego and seems to think nothing is ever his fault. He's become a joke and poster boy for being an over confident premadonna in the NFL.
