Fifth wheel trailer and the XD
Finally pulled the pin and brought home our new fifth wheel. Short tow from dealership to home, but already a huge improvement vs previously owned bumper pull travel trailers in terms of control, especially when passing big rigs or windy days.
Unladen to loaded, total of 3" of squat measured in the rear of the truck, springs leveled out, about 3-4" of space between the spring and bump-stops. Recently added a leveling kit, so rear is sagging a bit, but had I not, would most likely sit level. Going to add air bags to level the ride for preference, although its not necessary.
Trailer dry is 7600lbs. Pin weight around 1500, gross just over 10k, running on the edge of published gooseneck kingpin weight maximum, as well as topping out in the payload department. Handling/braking/pulling performance is phenomenal, as expected.
Easily runs in high gear (6) in tow mode at highway speeds on level ground (110km/h or 70mph).
Pin-box was taken off and replaced with a Reese 20k Goose-box. Air ride feature is a nice benefit. Still figuring it out, but I am turn limited to about 60 degrees (as most short bed trucks are sans fancy slider hitch), which is fine for driving, but parking in tight quarters takes a little more time and patience to prevent, well, the obvious.
