Fifth wheel trailer and the XD

Finally pulled the pin and brought home our new fifth wheel. Short tow from dealership to home, but already a huge improvement vs previously owned bumper pull travel trailers in terms of control, especially when passing big rigs or windy days.

Unladen to loaded, total of 3" of squat measured in the rear of the truck, springs leveled out, about 3-4" of space between the spring and bump-stops. Recently added a leveling kit, so rear is sagging a bit, but had I not, would most likely sit level. Going to add air bags to level the ride for preference, although its not necessary.

Trailer dry is 7600lbs. Pin weight around 1500, gross just over 10k, running on the edge of published gooseneck kingpin weight maximum, as well as topping out in the payload department. Handling/braking/pulling performance is phenomenal, as expected.

Easily runs in high gear (6) in tow mode at highway speeds on level ground (110km/h or 70mph).

Pin-box was taken off and replaced with a Reese 20k Goose-box. Air ride feature is a nice benefit. Still figuring it out, but I am turn limited to about 60 degrees (as most short bed trucks are sans fancy slider hitch), which is fine for driving, but parking in tight quarters takes a little more time and patience to prevent, well, the obvious.

Very nice. Since we got the new truck, I'm trying to convince my wife about getting a fifth wheel and trading in our bumper pull.

As for fuel mileage, I have no idea, as i'll have to log a trip to get a good average; not going to speculate.

We are at the heavy end/limit of what the truck can legally carry in the payload and kingpin department, but well under max tow, but I can honestly say it doesn't even struggle in the least. Steering is tight, lots of control and feel, braking is excellent when trailer gain is adjusted properly, and acceleration, well, there's no shortage of power, and with the radio off you can hear the turbo workin during acceleration periods. Transmission shutters a bit on shifts, but I figure it will take a few miles to learn the new weight is pulling; took apx 500kms of tow with my last trailer before the transmission figured itself out under load.

I just went through a big hullabaloo with my truck. I thought the 58405 Nissan brackets would fit my truck, but they are just for the Nissan Titan and NOT the Titan XD! I had the pinbox removed to put the brackets on before I knew this. now the bracket has to go back on to be a part of my system. I have a PullRite sliding hitch ( bloody amazing) and I want it to be part of my system. I finally contacted Nissan and they suggested the following without removing the pin box. This system uses the pin box hitch Like the Curtis 5th wheel adapter plate. I have attached a picture of the one Spinelli Nissan in Montreal suggested. Works great. The price is $1100 Canadian Kopeks though!

I believe this is the part. It is hard to tell if it will work in the 2016 because the web page says it is for 2017 XD. https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/part...9t5-w4198.html
