Buzzing after shutdown

I just bought a 16 PR with 5k miles on it. I've noticed that when I shut down there is a very audible buzzing sound that comes from underneath the truck. It doesnt start immediately and last for 10 seconds or so. My parents had a Ford Granada when I was a kid and it brought back memories of the key being left in the ignition...that buzzing sound. Anybody else experiencing this with their Cummins? Thanks...Ed

Buzz after stop

Yes, I have the same thing. I also own a 16 PR with about 10k. Getting it's first service scheduled for later this week. I'm going to bring up the noise and see if it's something that needs to be addressed.

My guess would the DEF purge cycle that happens when you key off the truck. I'll pay attention and listen for mine to do it.

It's the Def getting pumped out of the lines and back into the tank, Def will freeze.

Thanks

Thanks guys! I read that diesels will do this but I guess I had in my mind more of a mechanical pump sound. Speaking of DEF....I've put right at 1k miles on the truck since I've had it. The DEF gauge hasn't budged. I happened to find a business card in the truck when it was delivered from Texas and turns out it was a Nissan Corporate lease to a NMAC employee. I reached out to her about the truck and she told me the sensor had to be replaced. I guess my question is, should I still be showing a full tank after 1k miles? No towing, highway commute about 60 miles RT. Once again....thanks & Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!

Thumbs up DEF mileage

I recently went on a road trip from Seattle to Las Vegas. I put in a 2.5 gallons of the DEF at Loves on I-15 and US93 and just put in 2.5 gallons yesterday. It barely took all of the container and it was visible at the filler neck. I think I have enough to last the summer I hope. These trucks are highway cruisers and love to run down the road; they are comfortable, quiet, the front seats are the best and lots of room on the inside. I thought my Lexus LX470 was highway cruiser; the TITAN is better.

That was quick! I hadn't actually thought much of it until AFTER I read about the DEF purge system. The noise seems much more noticeable now that I connect it to something meaningful. Wonder how many other noises there are that I'm not noticing...
