Loving the truck so far around home but had a 4 day trip with truck camper in bed and now have a list of minor annoyances.

  1. GPS- no way to keep minor roads on when zooming out my Garmin in the Xterra would let me set the scale at which minor roads would turn off when zooming out. Very difficult to trip plan a way out of deep into national forest when you cant see the roads when zooming out.
  2. Wipers- Auto sensing puts them in to high speed too often and would annoy me, have to shut down two clicks to disable then one click back up would constantly increase wiper tempo beyond speed I liked.
  3. Cabin/bed light disable. Want a way to totally disable lights on opening door. When out hunting or camping like to be able to open truck doors and not have all lights signalling where I am to everyone in pitch darkness. Would like to disable all dome/bed/mirror lights on switch. Mod project.
In all love the truck, reviewed manual looking for way to remedy or shut off above features with morning coffee on trip but no solutions found. Handles truck camper much better than F150 did, better mileage and always has plenty of pull left in it, generally in left lane when traveling on slab to get to destinations.

You can set the interior lights to off with the slide switch right in the center of them. The middle is auto, forward is on and back is off. The bed light I pulled the fuse on that thing, I can't stand it. Now all I have to do is figure out to disable those puddle lights on the mirrors.

Just goes to show you that everyone has a different preference or need. I want the bed light to be brighter and I really appreciate the puddle lights and ground lighting from under the foot rails. When I worked at night as a workaround for the bright interior lights I found replacement lenses that I tinted dark red (just like on those fancy military vehicles). Light was sufficient for finding things inside but didn't carry far outside and didn't leave my night vision compromised. If I needed bright light I would just turn the rear cabin lights on, otherwise they remained off.

I agree with the GPS annoyance.... I carry a Garmin with me when I have the truck camper on and out in the boonies.... Shame you have to have a separate GPS, but that's the way the engineers designed it, so it must be right!

I actually like the GPS compared to others I have had. Yes some roads do not show all the time, but you can zoom in and out accordingly. The thing I really like about the zoom, is that is stays where you put it. On my Jeep if I zoom in and out, it only holds it for about 10 secs. Then it switches back to the default closest view if you are driving. I find that to be annoying. I guess its an old habit, but I always run at least 2 GPS devices on trips. Especially with a co pilot...lol. It makes it easy to search alternate routes in case of road closures, traffic issues, accidents, etc. **** sometimes I have 3 GPS devices running. The builtin one, a Garmin on the windshield, and the Escort Passport App on my phone for speed trap, speed limits in real time, and other alerts. On top of this, I also carry old school paper maps. But maybe I am just crazy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The wipers use to annoy me too, but this is my third vehicle with auto wipers. Guess I just got use to them.

I would think there is a way to do the lights. Ask your dealer, sometimes they can program options like that with the computer tools they have. At least Toyota use to do things like that.

But like others said, to each their own. Just think how boring it would be if everyone liked the same thing. It would be so vanilla. Personally I like the variety we have to chose from......LOL
