So i watched the debut of this diesel with hopeful anticipation. & then I watched it decline and eventually die off. However, I still really want to like the truck. Currently have a late 99 F250 with the 7.3 and it's a great truck & no emissions, but not as good for long distances with two kids in an extended cab. Found a 16 Pro-4x with 45k miles and am going to take a look at it, but the lack of support for the platform is disconcerting. Haul a small tractor (30 hp) now and then with a little 24' gooseneck & do a lot of side jobs in general handyman stuff, so the truck aspect is valued. Are we really more or less on our own with these titans? Mandated parts availability until 2029 but after that...? Not a lot of aftermarket support, emissions issues that are more or less non serviceable, sophisticated turbo system, deleting is an option but finding a reliable tune (which I've noticed navycuda has been rocking out on), but otherwise a sexy damn truck that's capable of what I need. Anyone have a bada$$ warranty that covers emissions? Just looking for input I guess. Been reading through for awhile now & thought i'd try to get some more input.

The bit of advice I give now is that there isn't an economic argument to buy the Titan XD with the Cummins anymore. It has to be a truck you love for it to make sense.

Realistically, yes, we're on our own. Nissan and Cummins both will be happy to no longer have to produce parts for the engine. The aftermarket has completely abandoned this truck and engine.

It's my intent to support the XD and the Cummins, but it's going to take me quite a while to get there.

So I guess, if you must make an economic argument to support buying the Titan XD with the Cummins... there isn't one.

I feel like I've read your economic point somewhere else before. & while I totally understand it the truck has so much potential. Ok, so your making tunes for the truck, how about the hard parts like overhaul or rebuild parts?

That's going to be directly proportional to my success. Years ago I worked in a specialty shop and one of the ways they made money was selling new old stock. I have an account with Nissan, so the more successful I am, the more parts I will stockpile.

I would love to get to the point of having a hoist and servicing the trucks, rebuilding and modifying them. I would love to put axles in to make a legal one ton. I want to take the diesel record on pike's peak. I figure I need to get my tune on about 4000 trucks to properly establish myself as a Titan XD Specialist.

At this point you're making me want to be the american counterpart in that. Though minus the tuning, i have zero desire to get into that. The mechanical side though, I'm more than comfortable with that aspect of it. Though it seems like you and Two Yeets are the go to guys for this forum. I guess I just need to decide if i want to jump in and see what I can get into or move on. I appreciate all the work you've done for these trucks and help you put out there for the lesser of us!

If you're not afraid of working on a modern diesel yourself, I'd say buy it. It's a nice truck with a lot of potential. It's only a matter of time before somebody does an axle swap and has it certified as a one-ton truck, getting the ball rolling on conversions. I'd do it myself if I had the money and a welder to throw at it, but I'm working on other things. Maybe one day.

These trucks don't seem to have many problems once you delete them and get a proper tune. I'd say the only common problem I can think of outaide of emissions crap is the coolant resevoir sensor, which can be fixed for free in 2 seconds.

I'd say buy the Titan, delete it, remove the EGR system and have fun.

I bought a new 2016 PR 5.0 and absolutely love it. There's a lot of gloom and doom about this truck/engine combination but nothing comes close to the value. I routinely tow a 10,000+ 5th wheel with mine. No, it won't pull like a Cummins 6.7 but it does all I ask of it for considerably less up front money.

Mid winter in Montana. Word has it can get a little chilly up here. I hunt coyotes all winter and spend more time out doors at below zero when others are heading to Arizona!
Now that’s where I want to be. Need to find me a job up there & a few acres of land to build on. I appreciate the input on the truck as well! I really do think they’re an underrated truck. Now to sell my Ford so I can pick up the Titan if it doesn’t walk away by the time I get the ford sold.
