I'm really shaky on the details, however if the ecm is stuck in a mode where it will not accept a calibration of any communication from tools, it will need the Cummins boot harness. This is a different harness from the bench harness. The pinout for recovering the ecm is not published, again @Bods has looked a bit deeper into this than I have but I am of the belief that the boot harness is not available either. The ecm pinout between the Commerical ISV and our ISV is different as well, so it would be a big question mark if a boot harness for that engine would work and I think, same situation, not available.

Nissan does not have the capability to recover a "bricked" ecm. They would just send it back to Cummins and put a new blank ecm in.
Heres the nissan cummins pinout

Like I said I dont think its bricked. And its not that its not accepting a calibration. Its acting as if its not even there. Which happens on new BMWs all the time too. Except they have been nice enough to provide a sequence of operation to put it into boot mode and have it accept a new calibration lol.
The nissan world is just new to both of us. So its a game of search and rescue.

I think if it was a true industrial cpu, Cummins would do the same thing. Boot harnesses are available for their other ecms. I'm sure someone could figure it out if they had one on the bench long enough. I would love to get my hands on a spare ecm and play with it on the bench. Hopefully in future.

Please stick around post your results!

I believe that’s what they call the J-tag method. That will work to recover it as long as the eeprom hasn’t been cooked or something else hasn’t been fried in there.
It’s a bit weird whatever happened for the flash to fail, it obviously does happen, but NavyCuda has flashed his hundreds of times and hasn’t had an issue.

Good luck getting it sorted out, I have seen the odd second hand ECM on eBay and the likes, but not sure what’s involved with cloning it if you can’t access the old one. If you’ve got a full factory file you may be able to flash that to another ECM but I don’t know how you go with BCM settings and the likes, I have read what’s involved, but can’t recall it at the moment.

I found this post from a google search. I know of a few people that have bricked thier ecm and had to resort to buying a new one to get the immo to learn. It was a 6 hour ordeal but helped a guy remote resore a bricked ecm and relearn the immo with Calterm . Trasdata and Kess skip the immo region its not stored in the eeprom its in the main flash. So dont waste your time splitting the ecm open.

Which ecfg are you using? BFY?

Which version? I know there are a lot of fakes out there. I ended up having to convert a winols map map for the bcx, back to ecfg and combine a bunch of parameters into the bfy which is floating around out there.
I have 15 variants of BCX. Yeah ive seen some folder labeled BCX but open the ecfg in notepad and can clearly see its not in the header

not the ones i have i have however seen the "fake" ones on a discord sever
Were they difficult to come across? I stopped looking after my cobbled together configuration did the job. In future I would like to support the correct calibration for each cpl varient of the isv.

This thread has great info.
I’ve never dealt with ners. But am familiar with tactrix open source and hptuners.
we flashed a truck 5 times on Saturday. Did a bunch of work on the tune, flashed it Sunday. It didn’t like something so we went to flash it to a previous file and in hptuners, when you try to flash it first has to authenticate the connection. That failed and now it’s acting like there’s no communication between Ecu and back. Doors lock, dash comes on. But security light flashes and 4wd error is on like it is during a flash.
need to find a way to get boot access to Ecu using ners and write calibration, something about Bosch Ecu having security tamper lockouts.
It’s strange cause it locked us out before we even tried to rewrite the file.
and we can’t get a pinout from Ecu anywhere. Even our friend that’s a tech at diesel place couldn’t access it with vin and engine Ecu
I’m scared the dealer won’t help since emissions stuff was removed .
if anyone has the 2016 xd Ecu pinout then we should be able to bench flash it.
Hi, Sorry I have not been checking my threads. I kinda assume you figured this out, but in the event you didn't/for others in the future, here is what it sounds like to me:

It sounds like the ecu was put into the "waiting for calibration mode"
IIRC reading the nissan documentation, after this mode is enabled the calibration has already been erased
This does not mean the vehicle data has been erased, only the calibration.
In this state, you should be able to connect a J2534-1 and load a flash with ners.

Wanted to throw this out there if it helps anyone.

As of tonight I was able to download the XCAL file from Nissan then import that file to EZLYNK and have it installed from there. I was successful with installing it to the truck ECU and will take it for a drive tomorrow to double check it all!

HI.
Are you able to program a BCM for a 2018 Nissan Titan XD Diesel? It sustained water damage and the circuit board is shot. I purchased a used BCM with the same exact part number and I believe I just need to change the VIN to make it work?? I appreciate any help!
Thx!!

Personally no, I cannot flash outside of a truck. You might try ners 03.08.00 and use the vin reprogram feature. I can share you the tool privately and you would need to buy a J2534-1 passthrough. No guarantees that would work though!

That would be great! Definitely worth trying. My email is hheabe@cs.com
Do you recommend a certain J2534-1 passthrough?
