Hey Guys,

I’m new to the forum, seeking help solving a no-start problem on my 2016 Titan XD Cummins 5.0L Pro4X. The truck has only 66,000 miles, and clean title and clean car fax. No Water damage reported visible.

I owned a 2017 model previously and loved the truck, unfortunately it was flooded in the recent hurricane. That truck got totaled so I bought another one.

I drove my new truck (2016), for a few months with no issues. I took the truck to the local suspension lift shop to have a 6” suspension lift installed.
The lift shop called me and said the lift was complete and looks great, but informed me my truck caught fire on their way driving back from the alignment shop.
they then informed me that they weren’t responsible for the repair and that I needed to have it towed to a mechanic.
In disgust, I had the truck towed to the local Nissan Dealership service, who quoted me $5600.00 for the repairs; consisting of a new starter, a new starter wiring harness, and a new fusable link at the battery.
Shocked at the price for repair (seemed outrageously inflated for the quoted service type), I declined their estimate and had the truck towed to my house.
Being mechanically skilled, building engine as and restoring vehicles as a hobby, I decided to take on the repair myself and save some money.
So, I ordered the OEM starter and replacements parts, and about $700 and 4 hours later, I had the truck back together.

I also replaced the battery as a precaution since the harness had melted at the starter.
Side note: the starter definitely shorted out causing the fire….appears that someone at the shop must have bumped the cables during the lift or alignment somehow.

Anyways, I went to start the truck and it will not even try to turn over. The dash lights up, I hear the fuel pump kick on, then with my foot on the brake pedal, pressing the ignition switch, the dash sort of flickers and I can hear a relay under the glovebox click.
I was able to get to this relay, and it checked out good. I also went ahead and replaced the ignition switch, and still no luck.
I’ve traced and checked all accessible fuses and relays.

I just can’t seem to make any progress on this.

What also confuses me is I can’t find a “Starter Relay” labeled any where on the truck. Nor could I find one in the service manual, or by searching google or YouTube.

I’m at a loss of further diagnosis…

Any help or guidance is appreciated!

Did you replace the battery cables and any other affected wires? There might be a damaged wire hidinf somewhere. I would also double check the connection on the starter. It sounds like you have quite a bit to replace, so perhaps you forgot something, or accidentlally attached a starte cable to the wrong place.

May not mean anything but any chance you could hook the OBD-II reader and see any code coming up? You mentioned you replaced the battery, not "batteries", check the other battery and see if it's still good.

Just an idea if you have a helper check the voltage at the starter when someone turns it over see what happens see what the voltage drop is could have a bad starter

I seem to have the same issue. No crank and lights on dash will turn on. I cleaned and replaced battery terminals as well as had two new batteries replaced. Last time this happened, I disconnected all battery terminals, reconnected and it started. What could be causing this?
