NW Florida Checking In

Morning all...
I live in Milton, Florida, about 20 miles from Pensacola. Just bought a 2016 XD Diesel 4x4 Platinum Reserve. So far, I'm extremely happy with this truck. I've been a GM guy for ever, having owned 7 Chevrolet trucks probably a dozen or more GM cars and 3 GM SUVs in my lifetime. Buying this truck was so far outside of my comfort zone, but so far has been a very good experience.

I'm six hours south in Hernando County. Welcome.
Welcome to the forum - I'm just a few hours away in Alabama. I've had good experiences getting my truck serviced over in Mobile, if you need work done.
I'm about an 8 day drive to your NW and I have the exact same truck. Hope you enjoy your new beast as much as I've enjoyed mine!
Well, what a coincidence, I am also in Milton, Fl, and have a Green 2019 Platinum Reserve Diesel 4x4. If you see me, give a honk, and if you drive down Park Ave. I am in the 2 story behind Winn-Dixie just past the church parking lot, wave as you go by! By the way, if you see a Green Tundra Crew Max 4x4 with a shell on the back, that's also me.

That’s great that you have both these trucks. Can I ask how the Tundra compares to the XD? Also, how does it tow compared to the XD? I’ve got a 2018 XD diesel... but have always wanted a Tundra. Afraid it’s not enough truck for our travel trailer long distance camping trips.

Thanks in advance!

I’m in a 2016 white PR Diesel. I live south of 1-10 off Garçon Point Rd. I picked the truck up at McKensie GMC in Milton. Who’s doing your service, Sandy Sansing?

I can answer this too. I have a 2017 Tundra Crewmax with the 5.7 assigned to me as my work truck. During the summer months I pull a 6x12 tandem trailer with a box, 25 gallon diesel tank, and a Kawasaki Mule FXT all over Tennessee. The Tundra will tow it, but you definitely know it’s back there. I get around 9-10mph with that weight. Interstate speeds are limited to about 80 as it becomes a struggle to go any faster (I know it’s too fast but still...there are times I need to move). You feel the weight every bump you hit.

The other day I pulled the same load to Chattanooga with my XD. Couldn’t even tell it was back there. Got around 16mpg driving like an old man.

The diesel isn’t for everyone but if you are towing anything heavy there is NO way I’d get rid of the XD for a Tundra.

Thanks. We just don’t tow often throughout the year. It’s mostly during the summer months. The XD is night and day difference between the Ecodiesel we had. But the half ton Ram has coils in the rear so you definitely felt the trailer, especially when it was windy.

The Tundra is appealing for two major reasons; reliability and resale value. I just don’t want to be fighting with the trailer if it’s anything like a Ram 1500 when towing.
No Ram experience but I would say this. Knowing what I know based off experience I would buy an XD over a Tundra 10 out of 10 times.

I have not used the Titan to tow, yet, but the Tundra did quite well in the past when I towed my 10,300 pound toy hauler with my Harley in it, and my old 24 ft. Haulmark trailer loaded from Panama City, to Milton 6 times - LOADED - with probably 11,000 pounds each time. I know, overloaded, but it was less than 65 MPH, and I made frequent stops to check everything. I hope the Titan does at least as good. The ride is softer in the Tundra, and steering is much lighter. It seems to be more for comfort, than a work truck, although it is more than capable. The acceleration is quicker in the Tundra, but it is a pretty powerful gas engine, so I would expect that. The creature comforts are better in the Titan, but it is a higher package, and 12 years newer, so no comparison, there. All in All, I can't say I have a favorite, but I will likely end up selling the Tundra, as I don't need 2 trucks, a Mercedes, 2 Harleys, a 66 Rambler Classic, and a Cadillac. Mostly because keeping full coverage (Yes, full coverage, my wife said you never know what can happen, even on older vehicles) is costing about 400 a month. Since I am a Merchant Sailor, and now work from home, I keep mileage low. Examples; 03 Mercedes E500 - 96,000 miles, 07 Tundra Crew Max One Owner-Me- 93,000 miles, 2019 Titan - 7,700 miles. Selling should not be too hard, except in these times, I might hold on a little longer.

I have not had any service done, yet, as I work from home, and only have 7,700 miles on my truck so far. Since it is almost a year old, it might behoove me to go ahead and have it done, as the indicator is now on saying 700 miles to service. Since Sandy has so many dealerships, I was going to see if the Dodge dealer could do it, they might have the stuff, as he owns it, too.
My wife saw your truck up at the corner - we are just down the road from KcKenzie - and said it was a very nice looking truck, and she rally liked the bed cover, said I need to get one. They have a regular gray one left, I was thinking about buying it for a driver for my wife. Contratulations!
