Refining a Titan: Mishimoto’s Nissan Titan XD Intercooler Pipe Kit

Part 1: The Stock Piping

Over the last month we have been going all out on the Titan XD, and we are pleased to report our progress on the hot- and cold-side intercooler pipes. As with most development projects, we first examined the factory components in order to see how we might improve them. At first glance, the intercooler pipes appear to be your average factory aluminized steel pipes. Further inspection, however, revealed that these pipes were not in good condition. The hot-side pipe had a bit of oily film coating the inside and worse still, the cold-side pipe had a startling coating of rust. Yes, you read that right; the pipe that supplies cool air to this brand-new truck’s turbo is coated with rust.

Needless to say we immediately went to work mapping out the shape of our pipes on the CMM (coordinate measuring machine) to move this project along ASAP. The diameter of the factory piping is sufficient for the Titan XD at this stage of modification, so we are planning to keep the piping at 2.5” in diameter. Our intercooler piping will eliminate a few slight bends for a smoother flow, and more importantly, the all-aluminum construction will eliminate this rust issue. Take a look at what our intercooler pipes will look like, and let us know what you think!

Coming Up!

In our next post we will take a look at what goes into fabricating our prototypes and how well they fit on the Titan XD.

Stay Tuned!

You definitely caught my attention with the rust building up in it already. Are you going with stainless steel to prevent this? I'm curious if your product will help with horsepower gas mph or any other numbers?
Thanks

I guess I missed the part where it said all aluminum. Sorry
No worries! We plan to construct our pipe kit out of aluminum to combat any rust issues that may be present on the XD. We plan to tweak the bends in the tube slightly for better flow, but keep the diameter of the piping the same. We have not been able to test for horsepower gains yet, but we are not anticipating any crazy numbers from this modification.

Any performance gains?

There will be Zero gains with this... all of there stuff for this truck so far is cosmetic. It's unfortunate they could have upped the piping size a touch for the future when tuners get released... but it's all the exact same size as oem.
Also the rust issue in the stock pipe, well it doesn't matter. Don't forget people that there is an EGR on this truck and the rust bits are the least of your worries.... so keep your money in your pockets for now people and wait for the real mods to come. There on the way...

That would probably closer to $700 for us landed.

Exactly not worth it way to expensive for what it is... These are diesel trucks not Showy Rice Cars that need chrome in the engine bay to get a vote lol.

Build me something that will improve performance not looks G-Dam* it

El oh el....at least someone is developing something for the truck. at any rate at least they have the dimensions, bends, etc, for when they do a kit that works with a delete kit...right? lol

Only one can hope lol... But there too scared they wont even try to delete this truck... That is where EFI LIVE and the real tuning companies comes into play they will make it sing and when they do they will upgrade those boost tubes to a proper size and these people wont sell a **** thing lol

Part 2: Final Prototype

In our last post, we ended with a rendering of the Nissan Titan XD intercooler pipes and the jig that we plan to use to fabricate them. Since then, we began fabricating our prototypes and testing fitment.

Before we could begin welding our prototypes, we first had to fabricate our jig. With the help of the trusty waterjet, we sliced the pieces for the jig and began assembling them.

With the jig assembled, Mike fired up the welder and got to work on our prototype. Although the measurements that we took with our CMM (coordinate measuring machine) in the last post should be accurate, we tack-welded the pipes first to check fitment on our Titan.

Looks like our jig is spot on! With fitment confirmed, it was up to Mike to finish our prototypes.

Fabricating Titan XD intercooler pipes

These awesome aluminum masterpieces are finished! We can all sleep better knowing that our brand-new shop vehicle is sporting these rust-free aluminum pipes. Paired with our DuraCore™ boots, our Titan just got a preventive upgrade that also looks great.

Pre-Sale

Now that our development is complete, we are offering a discounted pre-sale for those following our progress. Check out the pre-sale on the Titan XD Pipe and Boot Kit, and let me know if you have any questions.

As always, thanks for reading!

Apologies for the delayed response guys. You are correct that without increasing the diameter of the piping there will be no gains as far as power. There is no guarantee that even increasing diameter will make power by itself. We did slightly change the bends in the piping to flow better, but this subtle change will most likely not have an effect on power. This pipe and boot kit were intended for protection from the rust present in the stock cold-side pipe, so we did not want to delay in releasing them for those who want rust-free pipes.

Tunes should be coming out for this truck (hopefully soon) and we would not be opposed to creating larger piping to go along with tuned trucks in the future. For now, we believe these pipes are more than sufficient for stock trucks.
