So for anyone looking at a truck to replace their aging Titan XD with, here are some of my thoughts after two weeks of F150 Limited trim ownership in comparison;

  1. Brakes are more confidence inspiring in the Titan. The F150 brakes are fine, but they feel like I would almost imagine: Light duty. :)
  2. Seats - I would give the edge to the F150 only because they have the massage function. I would say the Titan seats had higher backs though which would be preferable. I am 6' 3" so if I had my choice, I would have the Titan seat with the F150 massage function :).
  3. Seats- OMG i missed having electric heated seats!!!!! Soooo much better. I found the air heated seats in my Titan absolutely horrible. And that is after the TSB...
  4. Engine - I have the 3.5L HO engine which is 450hp and 515 or so torque. I actually really like this engine quite a bit. But I do miss some of the low end diesel grunt. Reliability is yet to be determined. If you log onto the F150 forums everybody's engine is going to blow up lol. But as with anything, I take with a grain of salt. My work fleet truck is a 3.5L v6 and even though it does have the timing chain rattle upon startup, it is still going strong at 170 000kms.
  5. Entertainment system - I would say a tie. Neither knocks my socks off. They are both adequate.
  6. Steering - OMG my truck tracks straight now!!!! First time since 2017! lol. I won't miss the constant pulling to the right in my Titan that nobody could fix.
  7. Transmission: The F150 tranny is smoother for sure, but I'm really not in agreement with "more is better" in this case. I find the shifts excessive. I would rather have a 6 speed. I actually loved to hate my Nissan tranny. It was rough sometimes but I got to know its idiosyncrasies and didn't mind them after all.
  8. Paint - So far, again a draw. I didn't mind my Titan paint or my F150 paint.
That's about all I can think of so far. If anyone has any questions shoot. Otherwise, just a good post for people who need to plan their next vehicle up here in Canada since the Titan is no longer going to be sold here. :)

Cheers

I'm really glad you came back with some comparisons. I'd be mostly interested in how well it tows on account of ford boasting 13.4k lb towing capacity. I can't imagine it tows it as well as the XD, but I'm super intrigued since the XD is only rated for 12k-ish

I believe the Titan XD has electric heated seats. They replaced the driver side element on my '16 (warranty) when they did the TSB.
But it still doesn't compare with heated seats on other vehicles we've owned/own.

Thanks for the comparison!!

I think it depends on your trim. I had a Platinum Reserve which had "climate controlled seats" which meant to me a blower motor for both the cooling AND the heated. That is what the mechanic told me anyway when I went in and got the TSB done. Apparently the first year had poorly trimmed seat cushions which prevented proper airflow. Whatever the issue, they were not the best ones I ever had that's for sure hehe. The rear seats have the electric elements like a toaster :)

Hey no worries @AKTitanXD! Glad you enjoyed it!

Cheers!

Prior to my 2017 XD, I had a couple of F-150's (V8 King Ranch and V6 EcoBoost Lariat). Luckily, I have not had any major issues with my XD (I just jinxed myself), but once I'm done with this truck, I will be going back to the F-150.

I’d say it has the power to tow same weight as xd but stability will hands down go to xd

I test drove a 2019 Ram 2500 earlier this year, and it drove horribly. I test drove a 2020 Ram 3500 yesterday and it was light years different and a lot more reminiscent of the XD. I don't know if the one I drove before was just a bad one or what but I'm seriously considering making the switch when the warranty runs out on my XD. Normally I drive a vehicle until the wheels fall off but this time I think there's enough uncertainty to warrant getting out of it. But, that's probably ~18 months away, so we'll see.

What I hate about both Dodge and Ford is that, in order to get all the little creature comforts that come standard on the XD, you have to buy several multi-thousand-dollar packages, and you're at $70K to get the equivalent $50K XD.

@RyanF, dude, definitely don't jinx yourself by saying nothing has happened to your truck yet. I used to brag about my '16 XD PR not having had any issues, and now it has been in the shop for 3 weeks!

Thing is that in order to tow that much with an F150 you have to get a base model xl regular cab (single cab) long bed 2wd with the 3.5 ecoboost and maxtow/maxhaul packages. Basically a stripped down base model truck with no options except the tow and haul packages. And stability is no contest compared to the xd. I really think our trucks will tow and haul quite a hit more than they're rated for. My xd loaded with 1,500lbs of salt gel bags only leveled put. My 2014 f250 (2wd 6.2 gas) squatted big time! The xd also felt more solid.

Ford is garbage. Plain and simple. Ford made it real clear to me 20 years ago they don't want customers like me that expect the manufacturer to back their product and Fix Or Repair Daily if necessary.

Nope! Never again! Good luck with your purchase but even the worst Nissan is better quality per dollar than ANY Ford garbage.

Thanks I think LOL!!

Yeah my last ford was a 1990 Ford Ranger which caused the 30 year drought before buying another lol

So far so good!

It really is a "pick your poison" kind of decision. If I based my purchasing just on the different forums, II would likely be riding a mountain bike LOL. They all have their strengths and weaknesses but in the end, they aren't making the Titans for Canada anymore so the show must go on. Truth be told, if Toyota would have had their new Tundra ready I likely would have purchased that. I would just have worried about "early adopter syndrome" which afflicted my Nissan Titan XD purchase..

In the end, after 30 years and 20+ vehicles later, never from same manufacturer back to back, the dealer/service department is what matters most. I would rather have a mediocre product and an amazing dealer vs an amazing product with an inept dealer after having had both.

On a positive note, I have three Ford dealers within a 20 minute drive from my house. So that makes me happy to have a choice for a change who gets my business. And as with anything else, competition is best for the customer. :)

Cheers!

@Rochab77, I don't know much about the F-150's, so I'm wondering why you specifically said that only a regular cab, extended bed 2WD F-150 with max tow package would be able to tow up to 13.4k? Is the max tow package not an option for the crew cab 4WD models?

@Turbohawk, So is it safe to say you do NOT like Fords? LOL. Me personally, I've never owned a Ford truck, so I have no opinion. But I have owned an Escort and a Mustang GT, and they were both really good cars. I never had any more problems than you should expect with any other manufacturer.

Something like this is true of most, if not all, trucks, in my understanding. Basically, a 2WD regular cab is gonna be lighter than a 4WD crew cab, just on the basis of there being fewer physical parts in the 2WD (seats, doors, the 4WD components, etc). With everything else being equal (the powertrain, rear axle ratio, shocks, hitch components, etc), the lighter truck will have higher tow and payload ratings.

Yes. Not to mention other people have mentioned it’s nerve-wracking towing 13k with a truck that weighs less than half that.
That’s my biggest thing about the XD. It tows with more stability than any trick I’ve owned. Cause it’s heavier than any truck I’ve owned.
