Also found that my brand new 17 did not come with the heater cord, but the heating element was installed. Had to remove the skid plate to install the cord but took 5 minutes. So far so good. But shame on the dealer for not installing it as part of their prep and 2" lift install.

My 2017 also came with the heater but no cord. Did Nissan charge you for the cord? The dealership I bought from is trying to charge me $80 for the cord?

Terrific write-up, Mrbrefas! Your instructions and photos were helpful and the dialogue I found entertaining. Thank you for naming the bolts and clip that were listed but not required. This saved time and a little money. I hope to be installing the heater the next holiday weekend.

Just an FYI, but I believe that wind chill means nothing to metal. I think it's a measurement of the affect of cold on living tissue.... I could be wrong....
It does matter, but only when the metal is a different temperature than the air blowing over it. Moving air pulls heat out of metal (or puts heat in) much faster than still air / natural convection.

If you park your Titan into the wind, I would bet the block heater basically does little to nothing as whatever heat it pumps in will be blown right out by nice, cold airflow through the cowl.

A very positive update.

I plugged in the heater at 2:10pm without the mechanical timer inline. It was approximately 34 degrees outside then.

I popped the hood at 4:25pm and it is now 27 degrees outside before windchill. Got my handy Harbor Freight infared thermometer, and I started at the top of the motor:

This boded well, so I moved the thermometer's aim deeper down onto the front of the block and it got warmer still:

I even got down and snuck my head and arms under the air dam. Got the thermometer aimed 2" up from the heating element...

... and I got a high temperature of 60.5 degrees!

The pointer moved slightly so it was 59.9 degrees but basically: the updated OEM block heater has heated the coolant at least 33 degrees in 2 hours and 15 minutes.

I have a dinner engagement at 615 so I will snag temperature readings right before I depart and post them, but long story short... this updated block heater works like a charm.
Thanks for this write up, I just did mine tonight. Took two hours from start to finish, I just drained my coolant through the big hose on the bottom of the coolant pipe. You saved me massive money. Nissan in Canada has ridiculous pricing on their parts. This is almost 1500$ from the dealership which is insane. They wanted 70$ for just the two bolts. One was 10 something and the other was 62. Went to the hardware store and grabbed two m8x1.25 with flat washers and I was good to go for 1.25. I also found the inlet pipe and block heater already installed on eBay for 400$ which is probably close to 1000$ up here. I bought some remote hose clamp pliers. Getting the heater core hose off sucked big time .also removing and installing the new pipe wasn't easy to get it passed the seal but she eventually went.
Cheers

this honestly was a great write up. i did this whole thing in two hours total time. i just drained my coolant through the big hose on the coolant pipe at the bottom of my truck. i didn't try to re-use my coolant, i just put in new coolant from Nissan. the remote hose clamps i have suck so they didnt help a ton and man were they stuck on the old stock pipe lol. you saved me big by giving the pitch thread and type of bolt. them two suckers together are worth 75$ in Canada. i went to a fasteners shop and got both bolts with flat washers for 1$. not sure like you said what the extra set of threads on the one bolt was but not necessary. my factory one shit the bed that everyone had problems with and it was -50 to -57 the last couple of weeks so i was forced to do this so i could have a vehicle that would start. cheers
