I tried the camera and connectors. Tested continuity and connected everything, but it is still not working. I tested the camera separately on my TV and it works, but not on my XD. I will rewire one more time... that sucks...

PS if you get the connectors without wires, the best wire is 18 gauge.
My 19’ uses the 12v camera. Make sure yours isn’t designed for 5v (Nissan started using this either on 20’ or 21’ models). The after market 12 volt camera has a separate yellow RCA connector for video and red connector for power. The 5v use a small round 4-pin connector for both. Good luck cause it’s total worth switching them out. I was able to use a multimeter with piercing leads to check voltage without cutting the wires.

This forum is very helpful! So i got the camera recommended earlier (good camera) but it doesnt work on my 2021 XD. Tested it on a tv - works. Tested continuity of my harness - works.
After your post, i tested the voltage - just stuck two thin wires into the female harness and used a normal multimeter. RESULT 6 VOLTS! What??? I was so excited - but the upgrade isnt happening.
Btw: it is strange - Master Tailgaters camera worked when i tried it, hmmm, it is supposed to be 12v.
But it wasnt an upgrade - the viewing angle was much reduced although resolution was slightly better. I chose OEM’s wider angle over resolution for safety.

I was gonna say you might be able to get by by powering a 12v cam by tapping the power going to your reverse light since that would trigger but that won’t help if viewing angle is more important. With my mirrors always extended and the front & rear dascam rear view mirror I installed, I only need the backup cam for straight distance awareness and hitching.

The camera i bought (the one recommended earlier on this thread) is supposed to have a wide angle. Since i didnt install it, i have no basis to judge it. The one i was talking about is the camera by Master Tailgaters - they plug in play.

i thought of tapping into the reverse light, but then it becomes too much…. I was hoping to create a clean plug and play. Oh, well… the OEM works and is good enough.
Thanks again for your tip about 6v vs 12v.

Just wanted to say thanks. This helped a lot with my camera upgrade on my 19’ XD. Hooking up to my TT was a PIA!! For anyone following behind me, the only place I could find the connectors to maintain the factory harness was searching AliExpress for a Nissan 4 pin mass air flow male connector. They even have an extension that already has the wires terminated.

I upgraded my stereo with a new Kenwood DMX7705s a few months ago. I ordered from Crutchfield, and paid the extra $25 to have them wire the harness for the new radio. It was pretty much plug and play. The steering wheel controls worked without any programming. The problem i found was the new stereo made the factory backup camera even worse than before. It was pretty blurry and hardly usable with my new radio. I looked up the wiring diagram for the rear camera, and found it it was just power and RCA signals sent over the four wires.

I purchased a 720P camera on amazon that was close to the same size as the factory. My radio display is 800x480, so I figured this would be a good match. Below are some instructions, and parts needed to upgrade. The new camera has a much better picture than factory one. I'll try to get some pictures of the display to post tomorrow.

Tools:
10MM Nut driver or 10MM socket with extension
Phillips Screwdriver
Wire strippers
Soldering Iron or Crimp Connectors
Heat Shrink Tube and Electrical Tape
A few Zip Ties
Hot Glue Gun

Parts:
The rear connector on the factory camera is a Yazaki 7282-8853-30 male end connector. Here's a link on amazon that has both ends for sale. Amazon.com: 5 Sets 4 Pin 7282-8853-30 7283-8853-30 Female Male Waterproof Auto Plug MAP Sensor Mass Air Flow Socket for Nissan : Automotive

Instructions.
  1. Lower Tailgate and Remove the eight screws that hold the back panel on.
  2. Unplug the factory camera cable and set aside.
  3. Remove the two 10MM bolts that are holding the tailgate handle, and it will easily come out. View attachment 43803
  4. Remove the two 10mm bolts that mount the factory camera to tailgate handle. ( I tried to reuse this part since the new camera had similar mounting holes. It was 180 off mounted this way)
  5. Remove the two tiny screws that hold the factory plug to the camera housing. Now you can remove the factory cable from the truck. View attachment 43799 View attachment 43800
  6. Install the new camera pointed in the right direction. I put a few wraps of electric tape to get it to friction fit in the tailgate handle, then put a bit of hot glue to hold it in place. View attachment 43801
  7. Tie up wires so they are out of the way. View attachment 43802
  8. Connect the new harness and reinstall the tailgate panel. Here's the new camera installed. Looks just about like the factory one. View attachment 43804

Does it matter if your XD has 360 view? I am removing the tailgate for a cabover and I am looking for a camera that I can mount in the license plate area and still keep the 360 view I get on the dash.
Thanks
