Titan XD (diesel) vs. Titan XD (gas)

They have already stated in the xd brochure that the max payload for the gas V8 xd will be 2500 lbs. But max towing of just over 12000lbs stays the same and I'm pretty it stated when equipped with the diesel.
Edit: Yes just looked at brochure yes max towing of 12000 lbs is when equipped with the diesel.

Here's a start:

- questionable experience in the consumer 3/4 ton-ish US pickup market
- still building a base of trusted pickup customers
- hokey, niche tweener business plan
- underwhelming tow/haul specs
- acquired taste looks
- excess heft
- marginal fuel economy
- marginal acceleration
- the XD gas engine option out-pulls it even at altitude
- poor value
- no exhaust brake
- first model year
- 3/4 ton competition is tough
- ....
Your post doesn't make sense. Thread isn't xd business plan. It's xd vs xd.

Most forums have balanced discussions. You might be better suited to staying on Nissan's main website or a Nissan blog where the message is marketing driven. Many would say that's just keeping your head in the sand but each to his own.

As far as this thread goes, I'm in agreement with most of the responses. The gasser is clearly the better engine option based on tow/haul performance, weight, payload, and value.
So the actual owners in this forum there is no need for them just have them leave the forum and leave it too you real world experienced non-owners. That will make for a very informative forum. Have at it.

I like to over engineer everything around me, but although the 6.7L engine is awesome, I don't need 800 lbs-ft of torque in my daily driver, nor to pull a 3000lbs trailer while on vacation. I was never willing to go up to the 2500.

So I waited for the smallest diesel I could find in a half-ton (plus) pickup truck and Nissan came out with the XD.
That's why the runner up would have been a Tundra TRD Pro. I would have traded truck weight and torque for fun to drive off-road.

Also, in Québec, you have an extra yearly license fee based on engine size: 5.0L is 154$, 6.7L is 343$. It's not much, but over 20y it will add up, and the government will surely raise those numbers to try to promote electric vehicles...
We aren't far off your fees here in ontario. Although I did have to raise my GVWR a bit for my yearly license sticker for the xd. If we get further into the hd ranks. Not only is license sticker more plus we need to get a yearly yellow sticker certification. Where you have to take and pay to get your truck certified every year. And to go one step further once your truck is yellow stickered then any trailer you tow after that has to be yellow stickered.
It goes on and on. Also why the xd is a perfect choice. It comes in just under the radar.

Correct me if I'm wrong; I think I got most of your gist.

Unfortunately you're still going troll hyperbolic. I say balanced discussion and you counter with tossing all positive comments etc? And you talk about trying to stir a pot?

I know you have a vested interest in your XD and I'm sensitive to that. But changing the facts or attacking the messenger doesn't make your case any stronger or your XD any more valuable. It only draws more attention to your despair.

For me and many others, we're here to talk to talk about pickups and gather useful real world info for future pickup purchases.
Yeah if you say so. Enjoy your further discussions

Maybe now I should change my nickname lol... Yep we don't see a lot XD on the road here! But as I'M working every day with the truck(8500km/month) Now I see almost 1/week.I don't know for you but This truck definitely draw attention, a lot people stop me and asked about the truck. 1 week/month I have to work at Havre St-Pierre, so I well know this 138 road... I don't know if you had a travel trailer but you've got tested the handling, braking and engine in your trip... Lot of hill, sharp curve and bumps!
8500km a month?

You will be caught up to me in no time if you already aren't. How many km now?

Figured this thread could use a review.

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, and Wrong. BTW, that Cummins 'clatter' is the impeller hitting the housing :

Actually, this is the biggest complaint of the gasser:

No, we value your input (creepy Joker laugh):

AHAHAHHAHHAHHHHH
And with that said titan number one was flawless. And gave me every reason to be happy about it.

As a gas XD owner, let me comment. 19,000 miles, Pro4X, had the alignment issue, corrected. Had loose clamp on tail pipe, fixed. Had transmission shift issues, new TCM & ECM flash, perfect. That's it.
On the resale value, diesels being better. In say 8 years, with 150,000 miles on both my truck and an identical diesel, will the diesel sell for more? It better. It's 5 grand more to start, my oil changes at dealer, 40 bucks, diesel, 250+, $2,500 difference. Here in FL diesel runs about 20% more than gas, so there's another $1,500 or so. The diesel would cost me another 9 grand to own based on these numbers alone, it **** well better fetch more on a used lot, but 9 grand more? I doubt it.
Are the oil change intervals the same in the gas as diesel, are you going 10k between oil changes?

I'm just saying based on your current miles that's only 2 oil changes. So say every 5k on gas or double the oil changes for comparable mileage, diesel oil change is more like $100, gas $60. So oil changes alone are cheaper on the diesel at 15 over 150,000 @ $100 being $1500 total vs $1800 for gas. Now the fuel filter changes will add another $1500 so for a total of $3000, that's about $1200 more over gas and if both owners do their own maintenance the diff probably stays about the same.

Here gas is $2.39 vs diesel at $2.49. Let's say the diesel averages 18mpg over its life and the gas avg is 14mpg. Diesel would use 8,333.33 gals vs 10,714.28 for gas. This equals a fuel cost of $20,749.99 for 150,000 miles at 18mpg costing $2.49, the total for gas is $25,607.13 for 150,000 miles at 14mpg costing $2.39.

So overall I don't see where the diesel cost anyone more to own other then if a major failure happens, but I bet a major failure on a gas model can be pretty expensive today with all the technology in both gas and diesel models.

Now with 150,000 I'm willing to bet the diesel has a value of $10k or more over the gas. New trucks are only going up in price and no one wants to buy a used gas truck with 100,000+ miles to tow with but most are ok doing that with a diesel since they longevity and ease of towing (not screaming in rpms) out performs gas models.

This is just my opinion, I went with diesel because I hope to own it for 15+ years and put 300,000+ miles on it and somethings do cost more for maintenance on a diesel but not that much more. Also diesel avg fuel mileage only increases with miles while gas will see a point where the avg lowers. My GMC 6.0 avg 9mpg in town when I traded it with 143,000, new it was over 10mpg in town. Hwy it was 14.5mpg for its entire life.
Lol
Having logged over 50,000 km between 2 xd diesels and now almost 10,000 km on a gas xd.
I will take the gas any day. In Canadian terms the gas might be a L/100km worse overall.
Having traded in two diesels they don't hold value any better.
Having done first oil change on the gas at $50 it's a wash to diesel oil changes.
Then the extra cost for fuel filters and def.
I can honestly say there is no advantage to the diesel. And once you factor in guaranteed emissions issues on the diesel it really becomes a disadvantage without factoring in intial costs.
